The Mansion House Committee and Ireland
In the late nineteenth century both the third and fourth Dukes of Sutherland were involved with the Mansion House Committee. During the 1880s this voluntary association campaigned to raise funds to help people affected by the property rights controversy in Ireland. The Sutherland Papers contain documents which provide an insight into the Committee’s work, including the politics surrounding the Committee’s work and public perception of its campaign.
