Christmas at Trentham Hall

The Sutherland Papers contain a fascinating volume listing household expenditure at Trentham between 1677 and 1682. It includes detailed accounts, vouchers and receipts which help us imagine how life at Trentham Hall was lived in the late seventeenth century. This is especially true of the accounts of household disbursements made over Christmas 1681which tell us how the festive period was celebrated.
